The Peak - Aug. 9th
By Rich Neuschaefer

Several of went to Fremont Peak Saturday, Aug 9th. In the afternoon the air was clear and the wind light. By midnight the wind was quite strong and clouds were comming overhead. A thick layer of fog covered the valley north of the peak. The sky was really quite dark (no I didn't try to count stars to see just how dark it was).

From dusk until about 11:30 the seeing was quite good. I looked at the Moon, some of the objects around the Tea Pot and later Jupiter. We saw shadow transit, a moon transit, the GRS transit, another moon start to transit then very bad seeing and clouds.

The AP 130mm f/8 with bino viewer and 7mm Naglers showed white spots near the GRS and in the SEB following the GRS. The NEB had interesting knots.

Even with the clouds it was a fun night.

Clear skies,
Rich
