Quick Lake Sonoma OR

by Matthew Marcus

I drove through overcast skies in Santa Rosa to get there. The sky was not very transparent, but the seeing was decent if not exceptional. There was a good crew there including a family just introducing their kids to M-objects. The kids had a notebook in which they were writing what they saw (just the names, not descriptions) and one of them was young enough to need to be told, "a 'b' goes this way". They seemed to like the views of M13, M57 and M11 through my scope and later their parents' 6" Orion dob. Doug found Uranus, but I couldn't because by that time all the guide stars were obliterated by the oncoming fog, which shut us down at 10:00. Naturally, I drove out of there under what appeared to be sparkling sky. Oh, well.
