Using O-III filter on Jupiter (no, not it's ghost)

by Mark Johnston

As a few of us were trying to improve on images of Jupiter after the moon came up last Sat at Coe I gave the O-III a try because I was going blind in my 11" and figured, what the heck, my grey and colored filters are all 1.25 so what the hay.

Very surprised to find that the belts jumped right out and I liked this combination very much. Not only does it whack down the intensity to a comfortable level but it also pulls out the banding with an over-all feel of a green filter.

Give it a try, you will be if nothing else ... amused.

Later,
Mark
