Coe, you were wonderful last night!

by Greg LaFlamme

Like Mark Johnston said, it was just to four of us (and a noisy owl) Scott baker was imaging with his TV101/Cannon 10d, Dan Kaeo became proficient at knocking galaxies off the list with his Highe design 10" Newt (the man can find anything with that scope). I'm not sure what Mark was observing in general but he was having a great time and sharing his wonderful views through his CG11 and I was a kid in a candy store. I won't bore you with a list of objects but I saw a bunch and the skys / conditions were fantastic! In the words of Mark Wagner, for Coe, you gotta go to know. Don't trust the csc for that site.... I sketched the bubble nebula, or at least what I could see of it and in M16, what I believe was two of the three pillars. I'm going to compare my sketches/field stars to some astro photos and see what I saw:-) We all had a fantastic time but I felt bad for all who did not attend. The Uma Finnish triangle showed Mag 6.3 straight up but the south-Eastern sky was probably in the 6.5 range. Really, it was dark...The Milky way was very bright and detailed extending from horizon to horizon. I sure enjoyed the site and the company, the four of us get along like peas and carrots:-) It was well worth the $40 gas and 5$ parking just to hang out with those folks, toss in the great conditions and what a night:-) I'd give the sky an 8 outta 10. I think I left shortly after 03:00 per the moons request. On the way down the mountain, I stopped to take a picture of a fox but he was not holding still for me. I wound up have to follow him on foot a ways up the hill but forgot to carry my flashlight. Only got three blurry pictures of grass and trees:-( Clever as a fox I'm not! I'm really looking forward to Plettstone next weekend and am trying to arrange my work schedule so that I can attend both Friday and Saturday nights. Have a good week everyone!
