Fractional OR: 5/12/07

Despite the cold and damp that frosted over my car, I had a superb view of the Coma Cluster in my 22" f/4 about the time it culminated. I counted 15 galaxies, but unfortunately I stopped counting as I panned around, first with a 13mm Nagler Type 6, then with a Burgess/TMB 9mm. I have been trying to identify the galaxies on Chart A8 in the Uranometria (Northern Hemisphere). But I may have to wait till next year ;(. In any case, it was the best view of this cluster that I have ever enjoyed.

On another note, I thought I had a filter in my Denkmeier binoviewer when viewing the Lagoon, the Swan and the Veil - it turned out that I had forgotten to insert the filter. So Marsha - that view of the Veil, especially, was actually without the filter. That's why it was so lacking in contrast (but still a nice view).

Clear skies,
Shneor
