Coe, Coe, Coe!

by Richard Navarrete

Yup, Coe was the place to be last night. Friendly and dedicated group of a dozen observers. There was very little chatter last night as everyone was busy working on their own projects. Had a number of 10" dobs, a G -11/C11/Gemini outfit, a Celestron GOTO (don't know the model) , Rich brought a nice pair of binos (I never looked through them!) and Mark and I had our 18" Obsessions. I even brought my late 90's vintage ETX90. I mostly use it as a daytime spotting scope, but I put it in it's drive base and it tracked extremely well!

The highlight for me was finishing (almost) the Herschel II list. I had a little over 20 galaxies left in Virgo to find and I went into seek and destroy mode. Didn't spend too much time gazing, with the exception of a few fields with multiple galaxies, but wanted to make sure I found my targets. It's taken a long time to get enough good spring weather and I wanted to make the most of my time last night. Enjoyed using my 16mm Williams Optics UWAN eyepiece. Very nice and sharp. When I get a chance later in the week I'll post my observing highlights.

So, I said I finished the HII list, almost. There is one object that I would like to re-observe before I consider the list truly completed, and that is the dreaded open cluster NGC 2253 in Draco. If you missed the thread on this a few months ago, check the archives. Not well placed anymore so I'll have to wait until next year. I 'thought' I had found the field before, but was nev

er really satisfied with the observation.

Now I need another project!

Happy Mom's Day!
