More Comet Holmes 17/P

John Pierce

I think its larger tonight than last night. I just drift timed it with my 12.5mm on a 2X barlow, it took 21 seconds from edge to edge of the snowball. using Starry Nights as a calculator at Holmes' declination of 50d 13' 16" (j2000), I believe that translates to 0d 3' 10" diameter. last night, my estimates were under 2 arcmins.

It still has a distinct 'snowball' appearance with an outer ball, an inner denser area about 50%, then the star-like inner core with its offset 'wedge' ... The inner core hasn't grown

There's a haze in the air, my scope got dew out on my driveway already, and the harvest full moon is obscenely bright. . going back out to make more observations.
