A Social Night At Coe 10/6/07

by Greg Parker

Boy, am I glad to hear that. Saturday was my first time at Coe, and I was rather disappointed. It just wasn't that dark, compared to other sites much closer to home, and no amount of focuser twiddling could clear the fuzz away.

Even so, I more than doubled my Messier count overnight without trying very hard. And I could have spent the entire evening watching Trapezium twinkling in the Orion Nebula and gone home delighted. I'd never seen them without Moon glare. Enough Cygnus already: time for winter!

Are all those Messier globular clusters in and around the Teapot as boring as they looked to me? I found little to say about most of them other than to note relative brightness and nearby stars (or lack thereof). Perhaps I need one of those telescopes with a fire truck ladder; I could borrow the ladder from the fire station across the street from my apartment.
