Looking for 'faint' fuzzies

by Peter Natscher

I observed NGC 7635 (Caldwell 11) in Queen Cassiopeia close by Caldwell 9 last night up at Fremont Peak. Caldwell 11 was one of the H II's on my list to observe and sketch. It showed very well without filters but even better with my UHC filter on my 18" Starmaster Dob.

We (Bob Jardine, Jamie Dillon, and I) enjoyed great sky darkness up at the Peak last night in 75 degree temps. and sub-arc-sec seeing. The Pipe and Prancing Horse Nebulas in Scorpius were evident. We had total fog wrap-around below us all the way past Hollister. I couldn't see the lights of Hollister while driving down the mountain at 3:30 am. We enjoyed Jupiter views early on after sunset along with a beautiful 1.5 day old Moon that remained sharp in view right down to it's setting into the Pacific. Has anyone notice how the appearance of Jupiter's equatorial belts and zones has changed since a year or two ago. Few arching festoons were visible last night but instead showed three thin evenly-spaced parallel belts lying between the N. and S. equatorial belts.
