First light pictures with MX7C

by Manoj Koushik

Hello all, after futzing around with my Atlas EQ-G and the autoguiding etc. Here are the first two decent shots I took. Comments/ Suggestions are welcome...

http://www.research.rutgers.edu/~koushik/

M1 - 2X20 min exposures + 1 30min exposure + 1 40 min exposure. 1 Dark frame 10 minute exposure No flats. I have no idea what that pinkish smudge is!! It came up only in the last exposure M2 - 3x10 minute exposures. 1 10 min dark frame.

I used artificial flat frames (Had no idea what they were and that they were needed when i was taking these) Also the focus seems a little off :( My Rack and pinion can only to so much. Everthing was shot with a Starlight Xpress MX7C + Orion 10" Skyquest on Atlas EQ-G (Drift aligned. No PEC)

One thing I can't understand is the stars all seem bloated!! They look good on the L frames but as soon as I add the color layers (in photoshop) it gets bloated, any idea why?
