Ha image of SH2-171, shot from Livermore

by Jim Ferreira

Shot a very interesting section of NGC7822, cataloged as SH2-171, from my backyard last night, in H-alpha. A wonderful collection of nodules and columns. Not exactly the 'pillars of creation' but an exceedingly cool region of sky, all the same.

12cm achromat @ f/4, Atik ATK16 camera, 0.8x FR, 9nm Schuler Ha filter, 5 x 20 minutes, dark subtracted, no flat, manually guided with video. Acquired the sub frames with Artemis camera control software, stacked subframes in RegiStax, adjusted brightness / contrast with curve tool in Photo Shop. I like to keep it simple.

Having some kind of good time now!
