Nice evening at MB

by Sander Pool

It was definately worth the drive up this evening. Clouds dissapated later on and most of the sky was as good as the moon allowed. Globulars and Jupiter were pleasing targets. Company was good and we exchanged eyepieces and compared views. Robin was there with his C11 so I was able to compare image quality using the same eyepieces. That led to me trying to tune the collimation, something I should have done right as it was dark enough. I'm pretty sure I improved it, the star image was much more concentric. I think Jupiter was sharper but I only had a few minutes to try it out before needing to head back.

While waiting for the sun to set I chatted with a gentleman who was watching the birds and had some interesting tidbits about a pair of ravens in the lot. Just as I thought I might head out Pentti showed up and a while later Chris and Robin. Weather was pleasant but a little damp so there were mosquitos. Anyone going up should bring repellent. Chris had a nice 8" dob that he had just tuned and collimated. The view of Jupiter with my 5mm Stratus was spectacular. Finally a scope that took advantage of the ep. It's too short for my C11.

As the night progressed the skies improved and became quite clear and dark (given the moon). The big cluster in Centaurus was easy pickin's right above the trees altough it lacked detail with that much air/moisture between us.
