Lick Observatory 9/10/05

by Rich Neuschaefer

Jeff's PST was showing really nice solar detail.

The seeing improved greatly from Friday night to Saturday but the seeing Saturday was still not up the usually fine seeing at Lick or the Peak. Mars was a little soft.

The raccoon was walking around on Jeff's SUV trying to find a way in.

There is a crazy coyote that stands in the middle of the road about 2 miles below Lick. I don't know if it is looking for handouts or just having fun looking at the cars. Sometimes you have to wait a couple of minutes before he moves.

I bailed out on Jeff about 3 am. The wind shifted so that it was hitting us more. If the seeing had been better I might have a little longer. It was a fun night. The visitors were really nice. Several had scopes at home. I showed M22, M13 (briefly), M27, M31, NGC 7331 and the Double Cluster. This was with the AP155mm f/7. Jeff's 15" Obsession was giving a beautiful view of M17.
