Shingletown 2005, what a blast!

by Rashad Al-Mansour

I had a great time at this years edition of the Shingletown Star Party. While we did not have our usual five night of clear dark skies 3 out of 5 weren't bad!

Highlights:

Splitting Epsilon Lyr. into two components naked eye on a partly cloudy Saturday night! The central star in M57 with my 16" scope! "The magic carpet nebulae" NGC 7027, at 639x! The entire veil nebulae complex in my WO ZenithStar 80 using a 20mm Nagler plus OIII, simply amazing! The Dear Lick NGC 7331 and its six companions. That's right, six companions. I needed close to 500x to see number six, NGC 7336. The Sun! Five days of the most amazing activity I've yet witnessed with my H-Alpha scope. Old School on Mars at 4:30am at 300x! The sight of a young boy winning a 6" Dob Friday evening. Sharing good food, good wine, good stories and good views with my friends.

I am still recuperating from the trip, haven't even had a chance to go through all the photos I took yet.

Did I mention that I had a good time?
