The clouds were certainly a disappointment. We had blue skies the whole day, but the grand universal conspiracy against west coast astronomers continues unabated.

I joined about a half dozen MDAS members to put on a star party for a boy scout troop up at Chabot Regional Park (near Castro Valley). Bill Drelling joined us to say hello and take a peek through the scopes. We were joking that we saw two planets and one M object.... the Moon.

We did get a glimpse of the ISS passing overhead at about 9:15. When we were able to see Saturn and Jupiter, the seeing was excellent. The GRS was visible till about 10:30. A number of people have mentioned that it seems to be getting redder again, but it still looks beige to me.

It occurred to me that our club's 2005 outreach events would, when observed by space aliens, appear to be an advanced form of obsessive compulsive disorder. This is one where we cannot help but burn a full tank of gas, carrying a truckload of crap to a remote location, pulling it all out of the vehicle, standing still for a lengthy time while craning our necks and looking upward, then loading everything back into the vehicle and driving home. I can swear I saw some medication for this on a TV ad....

Excuse me while I go load my car up again for tonight...
