Latest batch of images from Saratoga

by Jim Solomon

Here are some recent shots with my trusty ole C8-NGT (8" f/5 Newt) and my troublesome new Canon 200mm lens. (I'm still trying to figure out whether this lens is slightly out of collimation or whether I'm having differential flexure and other guiding issues.) All are taken from my backyard in Saratoga.

This first batch is taken with an unmodified Digital Rebel (300D):

M51, 8" Coma-Corrected Newt:

Antares/Rho Ophiuchi/M4 region with 200mm lens:

Virgo cluster/Markarian's chain with 200mm lens:

While not as sharp or deep as Richard's recent image, it IS a bit wider.

This next batch is some webcam images captured a month or so ago which I finally got around to processing:

Jupiter and its Moons with Newt, 2x Barlow, and webcam:

Jupiter closeup with Newt, UO 7mm HD Ortho, and webcam: http://home.comcast.net/~jimc8ngt/jupiter-7mm-webcam.html

Interestingly, these shots encompass a field-of-view ranging from roughly 6°x4° (Virgo widefield) to 2'x1.5' (Jupiter closeup). That's more than 44dB! :)

Full image details at the links above. Comments welcome as always.
