TSP Day 4

by Darrell Lee

Actually day 2 of observing. I got about 2 hours of viewing in, between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. The rest of the time we were waiting for the clouds to move and the fog to lift. People are saying this is the worst TSP ever as far as weather goes.

I got 8 objects toward my telescope observing pin. There are only two early objects, the Beehive cluster and Melotte 111. The rest have to wait for Scorpius, Ophiuchus, Lupus, Centaurus, and Vulpecula to rise. I was going to try for some more Arp objects, but ended up letting my neighbors see eye candy like M81/M82, M13, etc through my 18" scope. They're using binoculars and a 4" Orion Maksutov.

Bill Drelling came over a couple of times during fog breaks. He made good progress towards finishing the Messier list through a 60 mm refractor. Dennis and Len are up to about 17-18 Arps out of 25 required to get their advanced list pins. I got 3 Arps on Sunday, but am working on the regular telescope pin and earned my binocular pin. If the weather doesn't improve, I may be the only person to get a pin! It's supposed to improve the rest of the TSP.
