Fiddletown

by Matt Tarlach

I'm curious about how Fiddletown turned out last night. How was the seeing? How about the dew? I thought about going, but I haven't had much luck up there due to the dew. So I decided not to do the dew last night.

I joined the crowd for a few hours, I think there were 8 people up there. Seeing was very good during twilight, and we had some really nice views of Saturn at up to 330x. Around true dark there was a heavy dew fall, but later it dried out a bit, and the dew problem was manageable. At least, I have seen worse. It was clear the entire evening but transparency was mediocre. When I packed up around 11:30 the breeze was starting to pick up a bit, until then it'd been nearly still.

A below average night for F'town, but still worth the drive for my first dark site views in some months.
