OI Sunday: MB do or die

by Phil Chambers

Well, I got as far as setting up the mount and hooking everything up. About then the fog bank to the west started unraveling little "snippets" that started to drift overhead like it was reconning to see if we were set up enough to bother with a full out assault.

Richard was enthusiastic enough to actually set up and take flats so at that point I figured that it was more interesting to kibitz with a heavy coat and chair with back to the wind that it was to get windburned and frozen at the same time.

The seeing was about as bad as I have seen it at MB. Once it was worse at Coyote where stars were so big they touched each other.

43 deg F, 100 percent humidity and a nice frigid wind (which must have sent the wind chill into minus numbers) made for a not-very-palatable observing session.

Earlier the goes 10 loop had shown that it was going to be better than any of the previous nights (at least it looked that way to me). The ranger said this was a better night than they have seen recently but "better" is a highly qualified term here and I noticed that she didnt hang around long.

However, the company was great.
