obs. report: Aurora from Lake Sonoma 11/4

by Pierre St. Hilaire

Featureless greenish glow to the NNE 10 deg. up in the sky visible from 9:00 UTC to 12:00 UTC. At times the glow resolved into an arc. Brightest between 10:30 UTC and 11:30 UTC when the moon had set. Very static display.

This is the 3rd aurora that I've seen from LS in a week, but this one was really for the hard core northern light enthusiasts. It looks like a Kp of 7 can be sufficient to detect visual activity at LS. Lake Sonoma is truly an outstanding site for deep sky and aurora observing. It blows away all the sites I have been to in the south bay.

I took some shots from the event, will post them shortly.
