Good night in San Francisco Mission District

by Jane Houston Jones

Soft seeing at 9:30 p.m. when we set up our telescopes on Guerrero Street between 16th and 17th. By 11:00 p.m. the seeing improved dramatically, by midnight it was downright excellent. Wonderful views of Mars. The ice cap is sure shrinking, and Syrtis Major offered a great landscape view 36 millions miles from home to a hundred or more through our f/9 AP180EDT and 12.5-inch f/5.75 reflectors at 200x . The moon wowed the steady crowd too, more than Mars did. Then we and a friend headed to a new (for us) all-night eaterie, the Bagdad Cafe on Market at Noe, home 3:00 a.m.
