Leonids from Coe

by Murali Balasubramaniam

Coe was relatively packed, even at the camp grounds. My girlfriend and I decided to camp out and we'd already booked sites. We slept in our tent until about 1:30, and woke up to the sound of cars coming in and people milling about. There were lots of enthusiastic folks around. We counted 137 meteors from 2:15 through 3:15! And, of course, we saw the brilliant green one that left a trail lasting several seconds! I almost missed that one since I'd to rush to the car to get my ski cap!

Having not seen last year's (or any other year's) Leonids, I'm impressed! On the flip side, being unwell I didn't have the push to take my scope out to view Saturn/Jupiter and other goodies around Orion :-( Oh well, some other day!
