Shingletown Brief

by Shneor Sherman

How good was it last night at Shingletown? M13 easily visigle naked-eye, direct vision, a hint of M81 with averted vision, lots of detail in the Milky Way. Saw the double quadsar in Ursa Major in my 18", couldn't swear to "double" though, a maybe, no color. It became very dark around 1 a.m. (CSC was pretty darn accurate). Seeing varied, but there were many good moments. Checked out Abell 3161 (I think), galaxy cluster in Leo, and the Coma Cluster. Excellent views were enjoyed by all present (Gregg, Jim, Margaret and me). Drive back to Davis took 2 1/4 hours; drive there the same but I made a 15-minute pit stop in Shingletown for a trip total of 2.5 hours. And a lot of magnificent views in Gregg's 25". View of the entire Veil in Jim's 85mm Teleview APO was spectacular. Etc.
