Great Night for Mars

by Mike Conley

Tonight was a great night for viewing Mars from Roseville. I spent a lot of my viewing time on this one topic. One thing I have run into is the absence of a good chart to describe the area visible to me to report. It would seem that when searching on the web that there is so many sites that you get information overload without actually finding what you are looking for.

What I was able to see (Newt View) was a dark region from 2:00 to center to 11:00 with a light orange area at 12:00. I was also able to see 2 distinct smaller areas above the 6:00 position and from the 800 position. The seeing was better than in previous sessions and there were actually times when it was steady for 20 to 30 seconds at a time. I would love to be able to name what I am seeing but most of the web sites viewed have way too much or way too little detail to name what I am seeing.

I also paid some visits to old friends like M8 and trying a little sketching which I may post later. I think I need a little more practice first ;)>
