Observing report - Las Vegas 6/18

by Stacy McDermott

Just got back from the Design Automation Conference being held in (Viva) Las Vegas this week. I went for one day as that's about all I can stand of conferences and tradeshows if the truth be known. Anyway, believe it or get out of here, I have an observation report to post.

As many as you know, Las Vegas is an astronomer's nightmare, but an insommiacs dream. Coming out of our customer appreciate party that the newspaper I work for held, I looked up out of habit and saw ONE star. That's it, one star...I tried everything I could have thought of to block out the light pollution, and came up with seeing of one star. Couldn't even tell you what it was as my sense of direction was all skewed, but it was at the zenith. But seeing that one star, in the middle of the strip located in Las Vegas made my whole trip. (well, the lower gas prices got me a little excited also). No one was particularly impressed when I pointed it out to the them but then they were in party mode and hankering to go to the Stratosphere to ride the "Hot Shot" (which I did not) and the roller coaster (which I did). So after a day of talking verification, timing issues, impedence, etc...I still got to do something that I truely enjoy.
