Saturday Night at FP: SRO!

by Clayton A. Feldman, MD

Well, as others will no doubt report, last night (Saturday the 19th) was a full house in the SW parking lot at Fremont Peak. There actually was an overflow crowd, with probably about twenty-five observers ringing the wagons and staring at the stars. There were a couple parked along the fence and a couple in the lot below who carried small scopes up to the SW lot.

The observer next to me (a nice Starfire owner with a pleasant young son) said that he had gone to Coe first; there was no one there! plus it was windy and dusty, so he came down to FP. Lots of friendly people and just about every kind and brand of scope imaginable. Drove through the fog in spots to get up to the Peak, so I was pretty sure there would be a blanket of it covering the lowlands, and there was! The night was fairly dark, but transparency not terrific. But, there was so much to see- I logged about forty or fifty objects with my 8" go-to, that I never got to do any imagaing, leaving about two am. Maybe next week with the camera!
