Fiddletown, Observation 03/17/01

by Jim Ster

Art clearly had the best view of Omega Centauri (OC) from his vantage point. It was pretty funny seeing all the scopes pretty much horizontal. At one point, I had it firmly in my sights as it cleared the roof of the observatory. But just as I was beginning to enjoy the view, Randy called out and asked if anyone was interested in seeing a comet. Well, now that I had OC in view and tracking, I popped over to Randy's scope and checked out the beautiful comet.

Two minutes later, I went back to my scope only to find that OC had disappeared behind the camper parked next to the observatory. It turned out that the window of opportunity to which I was seeing OM through turned out to be a gap between the roof of the observatory and camper which was only about 1.5' wide at the most. Oh well, it was beautiful while it lasted. With a little luck with the weather, BC should provide some spectacular views of it this weekend. Hope to see some of you there.
