Dino Hightlights, Tue 2/27 Wow!

by James Turley

For once, I'm at a loss for superaltives. What a night at Dino! Tues, 2/27/01. Unbelievable. Just some highlights, but maybe a real observing report later.

Arrived at 1500 to find Albert and Denny already setting up. Winds >10mph in the valley, almost DEAD CALM at Dino, only 1 wind engine moving.

Scopes: Denny (10), Jeff (14.5), Kevin (7MN), Albert (12.5), Jim F (18), Jay (10), James (8), Matt (8), Archer (6)

Mesquite BBQ of ribs, Filets, Dogs!

I left at 0210, just as Mars appeared and 3 scopes (Matt, Kevin, Jeff) were still set up! Despite being a school night.

All night the temp never dropped below 48 deg. RH hit 47%. Averaging 50/50 all night. This was a Wagner shirt sleeves event. Rare gusts of wind 4 - 6 mph from SW.

The Targets Leo of course. Seeing was mushy until the moon set at 2200, then got better and better and better and getter. Huge object production. Wows everywhere. For me, this is my First Leo. NSOG my list.

oh, too many more.

Anyone for Dino tonight Wed, 2/28?
