Montebello

by Phil Chambers

I was up at MB last night (Tues). There were 2 of us. It was "chilly". The thermometer said 36 but the steady north wind (from the passing front) got the wind chill factor down quite a ways. My cheeks (upper ones ;-) started to go numb and I have a beard.

The seeing was pretty good, by the by. The only problem was the wind moving the scopes around. I finally got a chance to wring out the st80 a bit. Jupiter was showing the 2 main bands with a third polar band occasionally with a 6mm. Hints of detail in the band. However, this detail only showed up after I put the new (to me) TV 1 1/4 diag on it.

Left after 9pm. The light domes seemed bigger than usual after about 8:30. The view of Orion was worse later than earlier.

However, it still felt good to get out.
