Fantastic views from Fremont

by Michael Peck

I only had about 20 minutes, but it was great!

The Orion Nebula, Jupiter and Saturn all very very pretty!

Just about the most steady I've ever seen Jupiter and Saturn, especially from my back yard! There's one little corner, where if I hang my backside over the pool, I can manage to be blocked from all the street lights, and boy was it worth it tonight.

C8 with 3x barlow and 12.5mm Plossl means...487x?? Can that be right? Maybe the barlow is on 2x (it's one of the Orion 2-3x adjustables, all the way out). 2x would be 324x, kinda pushin' it for the scope, isn't it?!

I dunno, but it was very cool. Cassini division was very solid.

Tried to see how much difference the Orion Broadband filter was going to make. I bought it a while ago, but hadn't really compared it to non-filtered views before tonight. I didn't see much difference w/wo it on Jupiter or Saturn, but it was much more pronounced when looking at the Orion Nebula. A lot more detail and inner structure was visible with the filter.

Didn't log anything else, bed time.
