The Christmas eclipse has begun!

by Jane Houston Jones

Mojo and I set up two eclipse stations - one here at his dad's house on Lido Key in Sarasota, FLA, and one down at St. Armands Circle, where we've been doing sidewalk astronomy the past week.

Thanks to Shallow Sky suggestions, we made two pinhole mirrors. We each also have a pair of the eclipse glasses provided in the January 2001 Astronomy magazine, and some other mylar solar eclipse watchers.

I'm also sketching the projection on the wall. Hope you all are getting to enjoy the eclipse, even vicariously though the reports those of us who can see it.

...

We just came in from observing the last contact at 2:00 EST... right on schedule! I made some sketches every 15 minutes since 11:13 EST, about 9 minutes into first contact. A nice way to spend a sunny mid-day here on the warm gulf coast of Florida.
