Windy at Coe

by James Turley

Coe...Sat night 10/21/00.

About 7 or 8 of us there.

An evening of X-Treme Astromony.

The wind blew and blew, then died down, then blew. And it got cold. But, still, Steve almost got the Horsehead, and did get the Cocoon, verified by Mark.

Jay managed to log 100 objects.

MiMi played with an Astro YoYo...

Phil saw something..

Rashad listened to the Series...

Me...I mooched views.

The sky was very clear after about 10PM. Planets were fine, as they moved toward zenith.

But, not one of us could split Rigel :-)

Steve could see 3 moons of Jupiter, un-aided eye. I saw a few through my binoculars.

A few of us could count up to 7 stars in Pegasus... but i only saw 4 :-)

The wind got so bad, all of us had to strap into Steve Caron's new Monster Mount to be kept from blowing away. I swear, you could hang on the OTA and not budge it one arcsec, wind and all.

All in all a windy night of Hard Core astronomy

PS Someone literally blew off of the road at 70mph, Hwy 85 North before Bascom. Not pretty. Hope those behind me are safe and sound.
