LiNEAR from California Motherlode

by Matt Tarlach

Saw S4 LINEAR again this morning, 7/2, from a good site in the Sierra Foothills.

With a better Eastern horizon I was able to see it in a good sized scope earlier than I had on Thursday morning, when I didn't see it until twilight. This morning, in several scopes from 12.5 to 20 inches, it was quite a sight! The coma and first minute or two of the tail had an interesting, granular appearance. Tail now appears close to 10' long. I think this is more a function of viewing in dark skies than a cometary outburst.
