Seeing The Moon

by Dave North

There's a slight chance a few of you have wondered why I haven't posted a thing in months. The answer is, basically, we've had no sky.

Missed the entire second half of Jupiter and Saturn.

Last night we had semi-okay seeing, lots of moisture, but a moon in the sky. Very high up.

Got a good look at Rimae Hyginus (including craterlets) and Triesnecker. So what? Right. No big deal, save that it's the best view of the moon I've had in months, and I enjoyed the hell out of it. Oh, there were other things to see also, but who cares?

We could see!

I hope this is a sign of things to come.

Got another look tonight [March 14]. The weird stain near the Straight Wall was back; I'm hoping Ak will write a little something (I don't know where the archive of the original observation is...?)

Otherwise pretty whitebread fare; Rimae HadleyBradley and all the nice stuff in Imbrium, the Wall, Rima Burt... just loads of eyecandy. Seeing wasn't good enough to pursue anything exceptional, but it was just soo nice to have a semi-clear sky with even halfway reasonable seeing.

Tried for the rille in the Alpine Valley at 350x, but the seeing just wouldn't hold.

Nevertheless: ahhhh!
