SAV Friday Night

by Bruce Jensen

SAV had a knockout night Friday, very clear between minor spritzes of errant startus clouds and very dark once the fog settled into the Bay. When seeing steadied, the sky was awash with countless thousands of faint (mag 6.5 or even 7) stars. Paul Sterngold took great advantage of the photographic possibilities until almost dawn.

I, unfortunately, found myself ill and was done in prematurely - but before I passed out Seyfert's Sextet looked mighty tempting at 290x; I noticed 4 of them on the spot and upon reviewing a picture I realized that all six, even the faintest two, were visible in the 18" with averted vision.

It was extremely cold - La Nina's frost was heavy on the owl's clover Saturday morning.
