Pegasus Launch

by David Kingsley

My 8 and 6 year old sons and I just got back from watching the Pegasus Launch from a nearby hill. We almost skipped it but I rushed everyone out before dinner was even over to see if we could catch it. What a great experience!! This was the first rocket launch any of us had seen.

The various stages, trails, and then then the bright flash at maximum altitude and the blue, green colors in a huge nebula radiating from a point beneath Orion were just beautiful. It was much more dramatic than any of us expected and both kids were jumping up and down, scrambling for binoculars, and shouting that this was one of the neatest things they had ever watched in the sky.

8 year old:

I thought it was really great. I really liked the long-lasting flash of light. The initial launch looked weird to me. I thought it looked like a flaming, glowing, star zooming around. It was CCCOOOOOLLL!:)

Many thanks for the heads-up on the launch from TAC!
